Many residents and visitors are talking about the recent Sheriff/USFS and AZGFD stops on roads leading up to Crown King. Please use the Service Az, Game and Fish, USFS, County and BLM links to view the specific laws pertaining to the roads, and recreational use of the roads.

From Flagstaff…
Less than 2 hours to
historic Crown King!

1. S on I-17 from Flagstaff
2. Exit on #259 Bloody Basin Rd
3. Head west on Bloody Basin Rd until road comes to a T
4. Turn left at the T
5. Road splits, stay to right of the Y until stop sign
6. Turn right at stop sign and continue up the road past Cleator to Crown King Use caution on switchbacks and one-lane bridges!

From Phoenix… Less than 2 hours
to the cool pines!

1. N on I-17 from Phoenix

2. Exit on #248 Bumble Bee exit

3. Turn left and follow dirt road

4. Pass through the “Ghost-Towns” of
Bumble Bee & Cleator

TIPS FOR THE DRIVE UP:

Stay to the right!

Use your rear view mirror – if someone is behind you, they want to pass you.

Recommended speed is 25 mph, even if not posted.

Off – road vehicles always have the right-a-way.

Use caution on switchbacks and
one-lane bridges! *Many honk at Dead Man’s Curve.

And please, don’t litter!

The communities of Bumble Bee, Cleator, and Crown King all are “living” communities. Please SLOW DOWN! Please do not assume these properties and mines are abandoned and vandalize them or trespass on this land.

***Note to off-roaders: The drive up to CK is a county maintained road, so the laws are the same as they would be on the freeway. From time to time, people have been ticketed for not having proper plates/tags on their quads. They must be street legal with MC, not RV plates, have the OHV sticker, and proper mirrors, etc.

***Also, in certain seasons, such as Winter and our Fire Season there are restrictions on certain roads and campsites. Please do your research prior to the drive up!
