The Five P’s of Immediate Evacuation:

Correction:  The Red Cross is asking all evacuees to register at the Care Center located located at the Mayer Elementary School at 12568 E. Main St., Mayer, AZ. The Red Cross can be reached at 928-237-6751. The Red Cross CANNOT provide information on the status of the fire or evacuation order specifics. If someone is trying to locate family or friends, this IS the number to call.

Steve Lombardo, CKFD Fire Chief contacted the CKCA to let the property owners in Crown King know that YCSO deputies are patrolling Crown King to protect the homes in case of looters.  Some of these deputies have SWAT shirts on because they also serve as members of this team.

At the public meeting in Mayer last evening, Incident Commander Joe Reinarz, also confirmed the above when asked during the Questions/Answers session.

Barricade Wildfire Gel Home Protection Kit – Check with your insurance company. The company may pick up the cost. We have had 3 other cabin owners do this gel stuf in the past week. Their insurance company paid all of the cost.

Email we received today (information supplied by vendor and distributor): “I have an environmental engineering company in Payson and we are the state distributor for Barricade (the diaper gel formula) which is the best way to protect structures from oncoming wildfires and does not require anybody standing in front of a fire.  Easily applied by either the homeowner or fire fighter.  Please go to my website and look at the information presented.  This kit will save homes and the cost to save each home is $366.

I have some inventory of the kits in Payson.  Read about it and pass the information along to others.  Most firefighters around the state are willing to apply the product for homeowners if it is left on the porch.”

APS UPDATES – From APS – Thu, May 17, 2012 at 11:48 AM

Electric service remains out to portions of the Crown King area.  At this time, APS has identified at least 14 poles on the Crown King line that are down and will need to be replaced.  The fire may have burned a few more poles, however, APS does not have a exact number yet. Unfortunately, APS does not have an update as to when they will be allowed in to assess the complete damage and restore service to the area.

Today, many residents did heed the fire danger warning and chose to evacuate. This afternoon, YCSO estimates 12 homes remain occupied representing a total of 30 residents. As of 3:45 today, the shelter at Mayer High School was empty. Many residents are staying with family and friends. The Red Cross will continue to maintain shelter operations indefinitely. The phone number to contact a Red Cross representative at the shelter is 928-237-6751.

The fire did jump portions of Crown King Road earlier today — This underscores the importance that all roads out of Crown King remain open to emergency vehicles and residents who are evacuating…

See below from the US Forest Service –

Firefighter and public safety are the first priority. Steep terrain and limited access are causing complications in the safe approach to the fire. All roads leading into the community of Crown King are closed; this includes the Cleator – Crown King Road (County Road 59), Senator Highway to Crown King (County Road 52) and Forest Road 192.  

 Fire condition updates will remain under the jurisdiction of the USFS – Prescott Office PIO….

APS Press Release: 

The town of Crown King is still de-energized and the Towers Mountain Communication site is operating on battery backup.  The APS goal is to identify our system issues and be able to begin to rebuild our system upon receiving permit approval from the Prescott National Forest as well as the Type 1 team approval.  This could take a day or so to come together depending on how the Type 1 team transition goes.  A mandatory evacuation is in effect for the town of Crown King and Mayer High School has been established as the evacuation center and the Red Cross is handling the logistics on that.
