11/2/11: ON NOVEMBER 14TH the silt barricades will be removed by Yavapai County along the main road.

The CKCA has a report of a forest fire about 15 miles northwest of Crown King (the location is west of LookoutMountain, which is about 1-2 miles past Palace Station on the Senator Highway). The fire is not a big concern for Crown King. The CKFD and CK USFS have not been called in on it.

The forest fire is about 20 acres in size, with homes located about ½ mile northeast of the fire. Helicopters and air tankers are being used today to control and contain the fire, which was caused by lightning.

For updates, call the automated Prescott National Forest Fire Information Hotline at 928-777-5799.

EVENT DATE CHANGE: THE CKRMA GOLF TOURNEY HAS BEEN MOVED TO OCTOBER 1, 2011!

Good News! The new Crown King Signs are going up – 3 of them. One 2 miles from exit, 1 mile, and at exit(that’s new from before). Please thank Carl Schaffer for all his hard work to make our help put our community back on the map!

The CKCA is fully aware of the Poland Creek/Sulfate Lignite Road Issue and is working to find and provide factual information from all sides of the issue. Until further information is received for us to provide, this is the current statement from Yavapai County Supervisor Tom Thurman:

“Yavapai County was mandated by the ADEQ to remove the sulfate lignite from the magic bridge into town. It was agreed upon that for now, until the test results come back (approximately 2 weeks) that the sulfate lignite from the magic bridge to the heliport remain in place.”

Also – The Crown King, AZ facebook group page is back up and running!

“Crown King Community Association Elects A New Board Member”

· As most of you are aware, the CKCA recently held an election to replace the Board Member position, recently vacated by Jay Jusinkas, after fulfilling his two years in keeping with our charter. Ballots were distributed and available at the Crown King General Store and the Prospector Mall as well as being accessible via the internet on our website at www.crownkingca.org The lion’s share of the voting was done online. It is important to note that voting was restricted to members of the association whose dues were paid to date. Other votes were disqualified in keeping with our charter.

· The deadline for vote submission was Friday, August the 12th with the results to be counted and confirmed on Saturday, August the 13that the conclusion of our work session/meeting.

The votes were confirmed by the board members and re-counted and confirmed by Mr. Scott Beck, an active CKCA member who volunteered his time to validate the results.

The two nominees were Carl Schaffer and Knut Nerheim and the results are as follows;

Schaffer – 13

Nerheim – 38

On behalf of the entire CKCA membership, we would like to thank both of these gentlemen for their interest in serving our community through their participation. Congratulations to Knut who will join the board, effective immediately. In addition, and on behalf of the entire community, we would like to acknowledge and thank Jay Jusinkas who has concluded his term as Board Member and has done an exceptional job as my peer. Jay was instrumental in the creation of our by-laws, our tax classification and many other projects. We are going to miss him at our meetings but urge him to stay close by for special projects.
