bring more business to the community.
Item-4 Chuck Bolle provided an update on the IRS Tax Exempt status for the CKCA. As of yesterday the
IRS agent handling our account has submitted the documentation to her superiors. Hopefully this will be
approved shortly.
Item-5 Chuck Bolle provided an update on the Crown King Road Maintenance Association activities.
Chuck indicated that the annual dues for the CKRMA will come due late June early July.
Chuck made a passionate plea to the membership to please pay the road maintenance fees. Donations from
the community and property owners is falling short of what is needed to maintain the roads. The CKRMA
annual budget is $15,000 and this only allows for patching of the roads and for some snow plowing. Last
year donations from the community and proceeds from the Golf Tournament was just $13,255. Currently
the CKRMA is down to $4,000 to cover any maintenance costs.
Chuck reported that CKRMA with the help from Ben Boles, Joe Hite, Ray Henningson and Ron Lips spent
four days upgrading Sunny Side South and Lower Towers road. A total of 62 truck loads of dirt were used
to level and grade the roads. This effort cost just under $7,500.
Chuck also indicated that both Herb Shepard and Ron Lips have contributed their own time and money in
repairing our roads. Herb spent considerable time in repairing the Sunny Side Lower part damaged by the
rain storms. Ron has made improvements on lower towers road.
Fire season is fast approaching and Chuck recommended that all residents and home owners familiarize
themselves with the evacuation route. Ron Lips just completed the evacuation route all the way to the
Senator Highway.
Chief Lombardo spoke up and recommended that all C.K. residents take advantage and register with the
Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office notification program. The program will be used to contact registered
individuals with instructions on what to do in the event of an emergency. The C.K. Fire Department’s
recent newsletter provides instructions on how to get registered. The Chief indicated that to date 60
members from C.K. have taken advantage of the program.
Herb Shepard provided some input on what the Yavapai County plans are for access road improvements.
Starting in August the County plans to upgrade the access road from the Magic Bridge to the Helicopter
Pad. This improvement will include the use of Lignite, so it should be a longer lasting fix. The C.K.
Community will encounter some road closure delays during repairs. Effort will be made to inform the
community in advance of the road closures.
Item-6 Bob Cosburn provided a brief overview of the meeting held at the C.K. Fire Station with Tom
Thurman and his staff. Tom gave a good overview of the road issues and classifications. Bob feels we have
opened up good communication channels with Thurmans office.
Item-7 Margaret provided a brief overview on the meeting held with the Prescott National Forest Staff
(PNF). The meeting is a continuation on the Recreation Strategy that was kicked of by the survey
conducted by the PNF a couple of years ago. A work session was held during the meeting and the results
from that work session pretty much aligned with the survey results.
A sub committee was formed with community members interested in participating to continue our interface
with the PNF effort.
Item-8 Open Forum;
-Chief Lombardo announced that they are conducting a fields clean up day on June 5th. The chief also
indicate that the Moss Torpedo Subdivision gained national recognition as a federalized community
the next goal is to expand this recognition to the whole town. -Jay reiterated that the current survey
response from the community is statistically not large enough to be significant, and again emphasized the
need of the community to participate.
- Margaret requested that all veterans in the community participate and be part of the parade.
Item-9 No new business was brought up.
Item-10 Bob adjourned the meeting at 2:11 P.M

• Balance to date: $1843.97
Secretary Report; Peg reported that the drive for 2010 membership is proceeding nicely.
P.I. Officer Report; Meara reported on her effort to set up communications contacts with various organizations. In the last month she has established a formal interface with Arizona Public Service (APS) Company. She also reported that the CKCA web site was hacked by persons unknown. The problem was discovered when anyone accessing the CKCA web site was diverted to another site. The problem was corrected and added web site security is being implemented.
Historical Society Update; Margaret Henningsen presented that the Annual Historical Society Meeting will be held on May 15th. Board Member elections will be held at that time. The meeting is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. at the Museum site and an agenda will be posted.
Chamber of Commerce Update; Greg Flores reported that the radio advertising in the local area is bringing new tourists. Greg also indicated that the business has been very slow this winter in the community. He also reported that two new business ventures will open this spring in The Prospector Mall. The ventures are “Doozy’s Bakery” and “Nice Cream Ice Cream”.
Item-4 Bob Cosburn informed the attendees that our request for IRS Tax Exemption is being questioned. Chuck Bolle is coordinating the review and will formulate a response to the IRS.
Item-5 Chuck Bolle updated the attendees on the road conditions after the big storm that washed out the access road to Crown King. Yavapai County was contacted by the Crown King Road Maintenance Association (CKRMA) as well as individuals including APS. Yavapai County responded by moving the debris that was blocking the roadway and not much more than that. They were called again and their solution was to put a road closure sign. This obviously shows blatant lack of sensitivity toward the C.K. community members and our business establishments. In the mean time, Herb Shepard contacted FEMA via e-mail requesting for help. FEMA did respond and are making an assessment to determine if we qualify for assistance. Herb Shepard indicated that Tom Thurman, Yavapai County Board Supervisor, contacted him and that county will be doing some road maintenance on the access road. Chuck Bolle thanked Herb for his efforts of snow removal during this interim.
A suggestion from the floor was raised to provide the C.K. residents and property owners an e-mail address that individuals can send complaints to Yavapai County. No formal resolution to this proposal was adopted, but it did have a lot of support from the attendees.
Item-6a Jay Jusinskas addressed the association’s plan for formulating an interface between the C.K. Community and governmental agencies on all road issues. The CKCA is establishing a sub-committee that will have representatives from CKCA, CKRMA and C.K. Fire Department. This team needs at least one more permanent resident member to serve on the sub-committee. Please contact Chuck Bolle or Herb Sheppard if you are interested. The sub-committee will draft a charter and develop a point-of-contact list that will be submitted to all governmental agencies. The interface contacts will address both electronic (e-mail) and telephone media, possibly through a form of dispatch as is currently used by the C.K. Fire Department. Details will be worked out by the sub-committee and will cover emergency and routine interface procedures.
Item-6b Bob Cosburn introduced our guest speaker Matt Burlington representing Arizona Public Service in the Crown King Area. Matt provided a concise report on the current status of the damage incurred during the recent windstorm. Matt indicated that all the downed poles have been set and the clean up work will be finished shortly, weather permitting. Matt also presented on the new upgrades to improve power availability and reliability to the C.K. area. New regulators have been installed in the main feed to Crown King. This change is providing a constant 120/240V power supply to your fuse boxes and will eliminate the power brown outs experienced in the past.
Phase three power will be run up to the towers some time this year, this will help in balancing the load distribution and provide additional power for their commercial customers. Money has been allocated by APS for next year to upgrade the main power feed from Spring Valley to Crown King. The larger gauge cable will provide additional power to allow for growth. Matt indicated that 3 to 4 new towers are being planned and construction may start as early as June of this year. Be prepared to see added activity and traffic from construction crews.
Matt emphasized that homeowners keep the trees cleared from power lines. APS will come and clear all trees on main power feeds that run through your property. Also if damage occurs to your power box bellow the meter, homeowners must go through the county to get that fixed. You can contact Matt @ 928-713-5819 if you have need of further clarification.
Item-7&8 Jay Jusinskas informed the attendees that the CKCA will be conducting a survey to all members of the C.K. Community. This includes property owners and non-property owners but full time residents in Crown King.
The purpose of this survey is to gather data and establish a database of issues within the community. The survey will be issued in the month of March. The survey will be conducted via e-mail and hard copy sheet will be available at the general store.
Item-9 Bob Cosburn thanked the attendees for participating in the meeting and adjourned the meeting at 11:21 A.M.
